The Third International Investment Promotion Forum was held here between Tuesday and Thursday. First convened in China's western region, the event was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Sichuan Provincial Government, the China Council for International Investment Promotion, UNCTAD and the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies.
About 400 guests both from home and abroad, including presidents or CEOs from Microsoft, IBM, Accenture and JP Morgan Chase & Company, were present at the forum,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], exchanging ideas on how to develop service outsourcing and advance the information industry.
The forum furthered international organizations and multinationals'understanding of Sichuan's environment for investment. It will help establish a platform of dialogue and cooperation between them and local enterprises and industrial parks, commented Xu Chaohui, Chief of the Foreign Investment Section, Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce (SCPDC).
According to SCPDC Deputy Director Cui Zhaojin, Chengdu is now stepping up its efforts to become one of the top ten national service outsourcing centers. Though the province is at an initial stage in this sector,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it has the capability to develop.
In 2005, Chengdu had software sales of RMB13 billion and service outsourcing of more than US$30 million. To date, over 3,000 software enterprises have been registered and licensed. A few world famous multinationals such as Motorola and Intel have established R & D centers here. The city has been targeted by the domestic and global software industry.
Software outsourcing, IC design, information security,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], digital entertainment, application software and built-in software will be attached high value by the city. The plan is that by 2010, the city will have fostered some software enterprises with annual turnout over RMB1 billion,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Grade 5 and 3 CMM/CMMI certificates and more than 200,000 software practitioners.
