Imperial Beach, Calif. —Phyllis N. (Nelson) Bill Russell Jersey, 79, died February 16, 2011 in Scottsdale, AZ while recuperating from a stroke. She was born September 5, 1931 in Pittsburg, KS to W. S. and Floy (Bradley) Nelson. She was raised in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1949. Phyllis worked at the Headlight & Sun Newspaper while attending Kansas State Teachers College.
She married William F. [b]Bill Russell Jersey in January of 1954 and became a Navy wife for the next 20 years. They retired to Imperial Beach, CA. In 1974, Phyllis became a full time realtor, specializing in helping young Navy couples find housing.
She is survived by her sister, Wilma and brother-in-law, Bill McQuade of Pittsburg, KS, daughter, Pam and son-in-law Ronnie Lipscomb of Virginia, daughter, Vickie Wilson of San Diego, CA, son, Bradley [b]Bill Russell Jersey of Imperial Beach, CA, 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. [b]Bill Russell Jersey, a sister, Eula Wiltgen, and two of her children, Margaret [b]Bill Russell Jersey and William (Billy) [b]Bill Russell Jersey.
A memorial service was held on February 28th in Imperial Beach, CA. She was cremated. Her ashes will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, VA.
