Tony Romo Jersey has one of the best days in Cowboys' history, but does it matter?
Statistically, Tony Romo Jersey had one of the better days in Cowboys' history.
He threw for a career-high 406 yards, a number topped only by Troy Aikman (455) and Don Meredith (460). For the third time this season he completed more than 30 passes. For the 16th straight game he threw a touchdown pass, one off his team record.
But there was no celebrating any of those stats Sunday.
Tony Romo Jersey knows quarterbacks are judged off wins and losses and with the 27-20 defeat to Tennessee at Cowboys Stadium, the Cowboys are 1-3 through a quarter of the 2010 season and in last place in the NFC East.
"I mean 1-3 just doesn't sit very well with me," Tony Romo Jersey said. "It doesn't feel very good. It's difficult. We need to find a way to play our best football. We need to play good football going forward. I don't know that that guarantees us wins, but I know a lot of the season is left. And this team, the effort is there. You can see it on tape. You see it in guys in practice. It's just things haven't correlated to winning. I wish I knew exactly what it was we had to do different but it's not that simple."
Cutting back on turnovers would be a start. For the fifth time in his career Tony Romo Jersey was intercepted three times. He has five on the season, more than half of his 2009 total, but four of the five have come on deflected passes, including his first two against the Titans.
Easily picking the Tennessee defense apart in the third quarter, Tony Romo Jersey squeezed a pass down the seam to tight end Martellus Bennett at the goal line. The ball bounced off Bennett's hands and into Michael Griffin's arms for the turnover. Five plays later Tennessee took a 20-17 lead.
With the score tied in the fourth quarter, Tony Romo Jersey's pass wide to Bennett was tipped at the line of scrimmage by defensive end Dave Ball and cornerback Alterraun Verner returned his interception to the 1. One play later Chris Johnson gave the Titans a 27-20 lead with 7:26 to play.
"It's little random things that don't bounce your way," Tony Romo Jersey said. "Ten tipped balls don't bounce to the other guy last year. Today it was twice."
With 77 yards separating the Cowboys from a game-tying touchdown with 47 seconds left in the game, Tony Romo Jersey suffered his third interception on his 46th throw of the game. Looking for Roy Williams across the middle, linebacker Stephen Tulloch stepped in front of the pass to clinch the Tennessee win.
"You have to be aggressive and you have to be smart," assistant head coach Jason Garrett said, "but you're on the edge a little bit in that situation."
And that's where Tony Romo Jersey and the Cowboys find themselves heading into next week's game at Minnesota.
Of the four 400-yard passing days in team history, the Cowboys have lost three of the games.
The Cowboys lost 31-24 on Nov. 10, 1963 to San Francisco in Meredith's 460-yard performance. Aikman's 455-yard effort came in a 46-36 loss to Minnesota on Nov. 26, 1998. Only Meredith's 406-yard game on Nov. 13, 1966 came in a win: 31-30 vs. Washington.
